The only other way to permanently destroy data, without physically destroying the hard disk, is by multiple overwriting of the data by generating and recording random characters across the entire surface of the drive, resulting in all data being destroyed and file sizes reset to zero.
Finally, as a standard, all company references including permanent security markings will be removed from equipment, prior to resale. In the event that permanent security markings cannot be removed, equipment will be forwarded for disposal.
No drive will leave the security of Absolute Networks' premises containing retrievable data.
Total hard drive destruction visually verified
Because of the powerful operation of the disk shredder, physical hard drive destruction is guaranteed and immediately obvious. There is no doubt the data is destroyed because you can see every stage of the operation and the shredded elements of the drive afterwards, making any kind of data retrieval impossible. The drive is unrecognisable and absolutely beyond use as the disk and its housing is shredded into metal granules.
Forensic cleansing and data wiping
Absolute Networks holds a Blancco licence which enables it, by overwriting, to effectively erase data from media. This activity is carried out within a secure area at our Authorised Treatment Facility. The server performing this function is isolated in an inner security safe area within the secure area and operates "standalone". This means it cannot be accessed by any unauthorised individuals either physically or remotely.
Absolute Networks currently offers a three-pass overwrite which is above the standard practice to render data sufficiently irrecoverable. Additionally, and of significance both in terms of reports to the previous owner as well as the potential purchaser, the software undertakes integrated hardware testing developing an automatic hardware inventory; this includes a statement on the software shredding activity.
This audit data is held permanently on an in-house server.
Degaussing
As an alternative, the drive can be degaussed - the reduction or elimination of magnetic regions, a property fundamental to the operation of the drive.

If the drive is damaged and will not respond to software shredding then it is destroyed by mechanically shredding
